7h00: Leave Hue for the DMZ Tours office in Dong Ha, 113 Le Loi Street, for a briefing on the map (or start the trip in Dong Ha). Dong Ha was the headquarters of the US 3rd Marine Division during the war. Continue to Doc Mieu Base (A2), part of the McNamara Line, then to the DMZ, Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River, the border between North and South Vietnam from 1954 to 1972.

Continue to the Vinh Moc Tunnels, the refuge of more than 300 people from 1966 to 1972. Drive past Cua Tung Beach, which the French considered "the Queen of Beaches". Stop for lunch in Dong Ha.

In the afternoon, continue along Route 9 to the Rockpile (a US Marine lookout). Stop at Dakrong Bridge, which links Highway 9 with the Ho Chi Minh Road, once the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The last stop is Khe Sanh Combat Base (an American base), scene of heavy fighting in 1968. Continue to Ca Lu Village for the homestay, where you can swim in a stream by the hot spring. 18h00: Dinner with some of the villagers. 19h00 to 21h00: Cultural exchange with the hill-tribe people – drink ruou can, sing and dance with them. 21h00: Bedtime.

6h30 (next morning): Leave the village for Hue or Dong Ha.
